About us

The LMU Innovation & Entrepreneurship Center (LMU IEC) was founded in 2020 to advance innovative and impactful ideas of LMU’s rising talents in a research-focused approach. The IEC acts as the one-stop-shop for LMU’s innovation and entrepreneurship activities. The LMU IEC aims to spark and promote an entrepreneurial spirit within the LMU community – particularly among its students and researchers, regardless of their academic discipline and level of business expertise. Our goal is to inspire excellent minds, foster regional and international collaborations, contribute to the Munich entrepreneurial ecosystem, and engage in interdisciplinary conversations. We bring people together to create a transformational force. Translational science, the process of transforming research into practice and solving real-world problems, is embedded in our core values. Expanding our activities as researchers and putting our research into practice will help us broaden our scholarly impact, through contributing to society in a meaningful and significant way. We understand impact in a holistic sense, as the value created (or destroyed) from a venture will impact stakeholders across ecological, societal, and economic dimensions. Our holistic approach to supporting early-stage startups is in response to the need for more sustainable impact-driven methods within the Munich and global innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem. The LMU IEC is unyielding in this regard – not only for the advancement of the startups themselves, but the communities impacted by their aspirations and operations. The LMU IEC is a membership organization in which senior faculty of all departments are represented. We are currently developing a broader range of membership opportunities, which will include alumni, entrepreneurial, and supporting members.

Our Purpose: We believe that innovation and entrepreneurship are drivers of societal development and change, and that new ventures are fragile and require knowledge and skills to survive. For that reason, we want to leverage the innovative and entrepreneurial potential of the LMU IEC aims to spark and promote an entrepreneurial spirit within the LMU community.

Our Mission: We connect and empower excellent minds to jointly and positively impact the world. The LMU IEC is a platform that hosts and drives the interdisciplinary and international dialog on innovation and entrepreneurship.
