Science Minister Blume: “Transfer Turbo for Upper Bavaria” – Coordination by Rosenheim University of Applied Sciences – Six Startup Hubs Across All University Regions – A Total of Around Five Million Euros and 26 Permanent Positions

On January 31, 2025, Science Minister Markus Blume announced: “Transfer Turbo for Upper Bavaria: We are launching a new and powerful startup hub to support all entrepreneurial talent in this university region. Coordinated by Rosenheim University of Applied Sciences, the hub will assist young founders with their innovative projects. With this initiative, we are expanding our startup support network in Bavaria to six university regions immediately.”

He further emphasized, “The startup hubs offer students and academic staff specialized training opportunities and support for specific startup projects. This accelerates the journey from idea to product, with the goal of bringing visions to market maturity. In total, we are now funding these six startup hubs with around five million euros and 26 positions as part of our 100-million-euro Hightech Transfer Bayern initiative.”

A New Generation of Founders

The Upper Bavaria Startup Hub aims to foster the next wave of entrepreneurs, equipping them with the skills and resources needed to build startups that not only drive economic growth but also tackle societal and environmental challenges. Participants will benefit from a two-semester certification program, earning ECTS credits while gaining practical knowledge in entrepreneurship.

The hub’s structure is modelled after the Center for Digital Technology and Management (CDTM), a joint research and education institute of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) and the Technical University of Munich (TUM), recognized for its excellence in startup incubation.

Strengthening Bavaria’s Startup Ecosystem

The objective of the startup hubs is to integrate and expand existing entrepreneurship initiatives across Bavarian universities, creating a cohesive support network. By connecting state universities, applied sciences institutions (HAWs), technical universities (THs), and art schools, the initiative seeks to establish a robust and interdisciplinary startup culture.

After an initial five-year funding period, the hubs will undergo an evaluation process to assess their long-term sustainability. Through permanent staff positions and sustainable funding, the program aims to provide lasting structural support for high-impact entrepreneurial ventures in Bavaria.

Driving High-Tech Innovation in Bavaria

The High-Tech Transfer Bavaria initiative plays a pivotal role in transforming new technologies and research into successful businesses. By bridging academia and industry, the initiative strengthens the regional startup ecosystem and facilitates the transition from scientific discovery to real-world application.
